The world's first paper architecture: Top flower-viewing spots at Taiwan's Flower Expo across three major zones

The 2018 Taichung World Flora Exposition will open on November 3. In addition to numerous flower-viewing attractions, the municipal government has also created special sights in the three major zones, including the waterfront park in the Fengyuan Huludun Zone, the world's first paper architecture "Senlong Hu Hu Pavilion" in the Houli Zone, and the "Water Dividing Trail" that offers views of the aquatic ecosystem.

1. Fengyuan Huludun Zone – Soft Pi Zi Creek Waterfront Park, Artistic Landscape Wall
The Huludun Park in Fengyuan District features the Soft Pi Zi Creek running through it, making it the only exhibition area among the three major zones of the flower expo with a river. The park is divided into five zones, and the municipal government has created a landscape water area of about 1 hectare in Zone 5. It can be used for light water leisure activities such as kayaking and dragon boat racing on regular days, and also serves as a flood storage and regulation facility during heavy rains.

The landscaping plan includes planting over 200,000 shrubs and flowers, preserving the existing high-quality trees on site, and incorporating native Taiwanese tree species and plants such as Ludwigia adscendens subsp. micrantha, allowing more people to learn about local flora and showcasing the beauty of a waterside floral city.

The new Huludun Park combines the creative floral elements of the flower expo to create ten highlights: floral landscapes, a small island in the lake, a lakeside viewing platform, eco-friendly paving, an artistic landscape wall, a herb maze, a vine tunnel, a waterfront lawn, civic green space, and a music square, presenting a completely renewed waterside floral city.

Additionally, an artistic landscape wall has been created, using light projection to showcase stories of Taiwan’s endemic species and ecology, including silhouettes of ecological features such as the spotted snakehead, Ludwigia adscendens subsp. micrantha, the Taiwan white fish, and the cherry salmon. The entire Soft Pi Zi Creek water area is expected to begin trial operations in September and officially open in November.
