A nationally famous cherry blossom tree! Japan's largest century-old ranch

Located in Iwate Prefecture, the Koishiwa Farm boasts views of Mount Iwate, one of Japan’s Top 100 Mountains, and is the country’s largest privately owned ranch, spanning approximately 9 million tsubo (about 30 million square meters). The farm is home to a nationally renowned "single-trunk cherry blossom tree" with a history of over 100 years. It is said to have been planted to shield cattle from the intense summer sunlight.

With a history of over 120 years, Koishiwa Farm still retains many buildings that are designated as Important Cultural Properties. These structures skillfully incorporate Western architectural techniques, forming a uniquely Japanese architectural complex. Many of these buildings remain in active use today, making them extremely precious.

Koishiwa Ranch is also a renowned cherry blossom viewing spot in Iwate Prefecture, featuring Yoshino cherry and Edo Higan cherry trees. Between late April and late May, about 150 cherry trees bloom together.

Among them, an Edo Higan cherry tree standing alone in the pasture field, with the remaining snow of Mount Iwate — known as “Iwate Fuji” — as its backdrop, blooms beautifully on its own. This tree has also appeared in Japanese movies and TV dramas. In addition, the farm offers different scenic views in each season, including rapeseed flowers, hydrangeas, and snowy landscapes.
