Local dessert brand Hakumokuya announces closure at the end of May

Established over 20 years ago, Hakumokuya, a well-established local cake shop, has announced the complete closure of all its outlets across the country starting May 31 due to ongoing losses, leaving many loyal customers saddened.

Founded in 1997, Hakumokuya was once renowned for its exquisite cakes, popular souvenirs, handmade chocolates, and French macarons. In addition to retail outlets, it also established a brand exploration center in Yangmei, Taoyuan. It has been honored with three of Taiwan’s top accolades: the National Solid Foundation Award, the Taiwan Enterprise Award, and the National Quality Award.

Reports indicate that two main factors led to Hakumokuya’s closure: soaring costs and fierce market competition. In recent years, the pressure of rising labor, material, and operational costs became unsustainable, while the domestic market became saturated with too many bakeries, intensifying the competition.

Once hailed as the top domestic cake brand, Hakumokuya will soon become history.

As Hakumokuya prepares to close its doors, to meet the needs of long-time customers, it will continue selling products until the end of the month and also offer retail sales. Fans are advised to seize the last chance to place orders or make purchases within the coming week.
