Located in the Sanqi Rice Field Area in Dongshan Township, Yilan County, the rice paddies turn lush green waves in May each year, then transform into vast golden pathways as the grains mature in June. With the changing seasons, the land's scenery undergoes a spectacular transformation, and the rural landscape amid the golden rice plants attracts many visitors for a pilgrimage each year.

As the rice fields enter their golden phase, the Dongshan Township Office announced that the Sanqi Rice Path will be open to the public until June 30, 2018. Not only has an observation deck been set up to allow visitors to admire the rice waves from above, but optimal photo spots have also been provided for visitors to take pictures to their heart's content and capture the beauty of the expansive rice fields.

The Sanqi Rice Field Area is known as the “Yilan Version of the Brown Sugar Boulevard.” Stretching approximately 2 kilometers in length and 5 meters in width, it lies between Fengzun Temple and Xiesong Road, featuring as many as nine S-shaped curves along the way, with no electric poles in sight. When the rice matures each year, it resembles a giant dragon lying amid golden rice stalks — a truly magnificent sight.

This year, the Dongshan Township Office also launched the “Sanqi Rice Wave Bicycle Light Trip” in the Sanqi Rice Field Area. Visitors can start from Dongshan Railway Station, cycle through the vast rice fields while enjoying the scenery, pass by Shuihuo Tongyuan (a natural site where water and fire coexist) and the Renshan Hiking Trail, and end the journey with a meal at Xingyuan Tea Garden — a relaxing and leisurely way to appreciate the scenery of Yilan.
