It feels like stepping into an aquarium — the Flower Expo's Water-Dividing Walkway showcases the wonders of aquatic ecosystems.

This year's flower expo kicked off in November in Taichung, with beautification and construction projects quietly underway across the city. Among them, a newly built "Water-Dividing Walkway" in the Waipu District of Taichung offers a clear view into the aquatic ecosystem. Walking through it feels like being inside an aquarium, observing the underwater space of an ecological pool. Visitors can admire aquatic plants above water, on the water surface, and beneath the water — a feature that has drawn considerable attention.

The approximately 105-meter-long "Water-Dividing Walkway" divides the ecological pool in the Waipu District into two sections. The underwater section is about 36.5 meters long, with various aquatic plants planted along both sides of the walkway. These include floating plants on the water surface such as Taiwan yellow water lily and watercress, emergent plants in the water like water celery, variegated iris, and submerged plants such as alternate-flowered watermilfoil under the water. This adds a unique aquatic scene to the Waipu District, which is rich in horticultural flowers, making it quite an interesting experience.

At the flattest and lowest point of the Water-Dividing Walkway, 14 glass observation windows have been installed. In addition to allowing visitors to see different layers of aquatic plants at once, these windows also maintain clean water quality through independently circulating purification equipment. Coupled with underwater lighting around the windows, visitors feel as if they are in an aquarium, where they can observe various forms of aquatic plants and animals. It’s a rare and special experience seldom seen in Taiwan.
