The integration of nature and architecture has gained popularity in Europe, America, and even mainland China, but Taiwan also has such a hidden gem. The "Shao Shao Primitive Sensation Lab" is located on the hills of Waishuangxi on the outskirts of Taipei. Its exterior is enclosed by shade nets commonly used in orchards, forming a vast space. This semi-open structure closely integrates with nature, creating an effortlessly natural ambiance and exuding a uniquely ethereal vibe.

Originally an indigenous restaurant, it retains wooden, semi-open structures amid the woods, incorporating every tree and blade of grass, complemented by steel and glass. Since its establishment, the lab has also been recognized with the ADA New Architecture Award. "An experimental space exploring the transformation between urban civilization and the natural world" is the founding mission of Shao Shao. Though it sounds abstract, in today’s high-pressure society, people need a healing space to decompress and unwind — this is a perfect example.

The most eye-catching feature indoors is the four tall trees, stretching upward as they grow. The building is divided into four main areas: a public area with a small kitchen, a second-floor loft, a glass-enclosed secondary area, and a large terrace connected to it. Strolling through the space feels as if time itself slows down.

In addition to promoting humanities and art exhibitions, the space has hosted flower workshops, meditation sessions, yoga classes, dinner events, weddings, and even shamanic rituals. With the changing seasons, returning to a natural and primal state, this space offers a new sensory experience that allows all who visit to feel a complete renewal of body, mind, and spirit.

It's a bit of a pity that apart from special events, the space is not generally open to the public. However, you can still follow its Facebook fan page to keep up with upcoming activities or inquire about renting the space.
