The Hydrangea Sea Trail is a romantic flower-viewing spot at Ajisai Temple

June is the season when hydrangeas bloom in Japan, their blossoms bursting forth like colorful balls, creating a dense, explosion-like spectacle that’s an unmissable summer flower sea view. Located in Kamakura, Meigetsu-in is also known as the “Hydrangea Temple” and is a famous flower-viewing spot in Kanagawa. Around mid-June, approximately 2,500 hydrangea plants burst into brilliant bloom.

Meigetsu-in is said to be over 800 years old. Every year during Japan’s rainy season in June and July, thousands of hydrangea flowers in the temple grounds come into bloom, forming a beautiful sea of flowers in various colors, with peak blooming occurring around mid-June.
