Taiwan’s design boutique hotels stand out as the world’s most beloved accommodations

A renowned hotel booking platform has released its latest 2018 “Loved by Guests Award,” unveiling the list of hotels most favored by travelers worldwide, with 30 hotels in Taiwan winning gold awards.

This year’s list no longer relies solely on star ratings as the reference criterion. Real guest experiences are reflected in reviews and scores. Based on the scores, boutique hotels with distinctive features and business hotels with excellent facilities remain popular among guests. Resort accommodations offering comfortable stays and beautiful natural scenery also receive higher evaluations and feedback.

9.6 rating winner: Yilan Greenlake Waterfront Retreat.

The top five “most popular” countries globally maintain last year’s glory. The United States remains the biggest winner worldwide, with 1,498 properties awarded gold. Italy surpassed the UK to take second place; other strong performers include Canada and Spain.

9.6 rating winner: Hualien Taroko Likko Cultural Hotel.

Among the 30 award-winning hotels in Taiwan, Taipei secured 10 spots, followed by Nantou with 5, and Hualien with 3. The five hotels that received the highest score of 9.6 are not five-star hotels but include homestays and stylish lodgings located in popular tourist destinations such as Hualien, Yilan, Taitung, and Nantou.
