Visit the world’s largest Starbucks and document this branch that spans half the size of a football field

After reclaiming the franchise rights for Starbucks in Shanghai last year, the world’s largest coffee chain accelerated its expansion in the region, and in December 2017 opened the world’s largest store, “Starbucks Reserve Roastery.” The two-story outlet covers an area of 30,000 square feet—about the size of half a football field.

Located on Nanjing Road in Shanghai, the coffee shop is hugely popular, often requiring guests to wait two hours or more just to get in. In addition to coffee, it offers over 100 types of drinks including alcoholic beverages and coffee-brewed beers, as well as food items not found in regular branches.

Additionally, the store’s design includes a collaboration with Alibaba, featuring AR functionality that lets customers experience the coffee-making process from bean to cup, along with app-based ordering and Alipay payment services.

Currently, the Shanghai branch is the company’s second “Starbucks Reserve Roastery.” The first is located in Seattle, USA, with plans to open more in Tokyo, Milan, New York, and Chicago in the future.
