KitKat transforms into nigiri sushi as an airport-exclusive souvenir at Itami Airport

The uniquely flavored Japanese chocolate brand KitKat has a huge following around the world and is always one of the must-buy souvenirs for travelers visiting Japan. Each year, in addition to releasing limited-edition flavors based on seasons and holidays—such as sakura or sake—KitKat also often introduces regional flavors to coincide with new store openings or renovations. This year, with the renovation of Osaka’s Itami International Airport terminal, the dedicated KitKat store “KitKat Chocolatory” Itami Airport branch will officially open on April 18.

To mark the new store’s opening, the nigiri sushi-themed KitKat that first appeared last year at the Ginza store will also make its debut at the “KitKat Chocolatory” Itami Airport store. These eye-catching creations feature KitKat chocolates in various flavors and colors shaped like tuna nigiri, tamagoyaki (Japanese omelet) nigiri, and uni (sea urchin) gunkan maki, and will be given away as exclusive event gifts during the store’s launch campaign.

The white chocolate puffed rice on the bottom is designed to resemble vinegared rice, paired with nori and uniquely flavored KitKat chocolates. Not only is the appearance intriguing, but the taste also sparks the imagination.
