A new Edo-period-themed Starbucks spot to enjoy coffee in a traditional Japanese building

Starbucks specialty stores can be found around the world. Following the opening of the world’s first branch where you can sip coffee on tatami mats in Kyoto, a new location has recently been chosen in Kawagoe, a tourist destination known as "Little Edo." The store is designed in the traditional kurazukuri architectural style and incorporates modern spatial design to create a café that exudes an Edo-period atmosphere.

The exterior of the Starbucks Kawagoe Kanetsuki-dori Store features the traditional kurazukuri architecture of Kawagoe, using cedar wood from Saitama Prefecture, with roof tiles painted in black and white. The interior elements such as the coffee bar and stools are crafted using local artisan designs, allowing visitors to not only experience traditional Japanese aesthetics from the Edo period but also enjoy modern coffee flavors.

The most iconic landmark in Kawagoe is the Toki no Kane (Bell of Time), which has been marking time for the region for 400 years. Every day at 6 AM, 12 PM, 3 PM, and 6 PM, you can hear its clear chime. While savoring the rich aroma of coffee, you can also stroll through the old streets accompanied by the sound of the bell, immersing yourself in an Edo-era atmosphere that bridges past and present.

In addition, the first Starbucks Reserve Pour Over store in western Japan has opened at LUCUA osaka in Osaka Station on April 1.
