Plan your early blooming season trip: Top 7 locations to view tung blossoms across Taiwan

Every spring and summer, Taiwan becomes blanketed in snow-white tung blossoms. Regions such as mountainous areas north of Chiayi, as well as eastern parts like Hualien and Taitung, offer stunning vistas of tung blossoms covering the hills. Especially in Hakka villages around Taoyuan, Hsinchu, and Miaoli, April and May bring a flurry of white blooms, creating some of the most beautiful scenery in Taiwan.

1. Taoyuan – Daxi Flower Farm
Daxi Flower Farm is one of the largest flower farms in northern Taiwan, spanning 17 hectares and home to over 4 million flowers. During the tung blossom season, rows of tung trees are dotted with fluffy white blooms, while fallen petals create a dreamy, snow-like effect. As spring transitions into summer, colorful blooms across the farm also come into full display, offering breathtaking scenery.

The Tongluo Township Skywalk is a rare high-altitude cycling route and an excellent spot to enjoy tung blossoms. Along the way, you can overlook tea plantations and ancient salt-carrying trails with expansive views, and even enjoy spectacular sunsets. 

Transportation info: Exit at Sanyi Interchange -> Take Provincial Highway 13 into downtown Sanyi -> Head north toward Tongluo via the outer ring road -> Turn left at the Zhangjiu Bridge leading to Jiuhuashan -> Reach the southern entrance of the Tongluo bicycle path

3. Miaoli – Shuangfengshan Cihui Temple Mountain TrailImage provided bySoaring through the sky
As one of the Eight Scenic Spots of Miaoli, Shuangfengshan offers a great vantage point to admire the mountain’s beauty, including the scenic farmlands of Tongluo. During the tung blossom season, the views become even more spectacular.

Transportation info: Exit at Tongluo Interchange -> Take Provincial Highway 13 (Jianfeng Hwy, heading toward Sanyi) -> Turn left at the intersection before Shanlong Gas Station -> Go straight to the end, then turn left followed by an immediate right -> Continue uphill to reach the destination

4. Miaoli – Shenzhao Mountain Tung Blossom TrailImage provided bySoaring through the sky
Though not particularly high in elevation, the Shenzhao Mountain Trail is beloved by locals for its shaded greenery and is a popular hiking route. During the tung blossom festival, the white blooms add a magical touch to the forested landscape, delighting visitors at every turn. 

Transportation info: Exit at Toufen Interchange on National Freeway 1, head toward Sanwan and turn left onto County Road 124, turn right onto Provincial Highway 3 at Shanzhu Lake, continue toward Shitan for 106.8 km, then turn left at the sign and follow the mountain road to arrive.
