An old house surprises with a Japanese-style makeover; its stylish exterior becomes a focal point

In Kaohsiung, there is a 36-year-old aging house that, after being renovated by a Taiwanese design studio, has been transformed into a fashionable Japanese-style residence. Compared to the neighboring houses, it stands out remarkably, catching the eye of many passersby who can't help but stop to take photos, and even some netizens have made special trips to see it.

This old house renovation project comes from Casa & Café coffee shop in Taichung, which opened a branch in Kaohsiung and invited HAO Design to handle the design. Centered around the concept of a "home for living," it creates a composite space that combines a studio and a furniture store. The original structure of the old house was preserved, with the indoor staircase moved outdoors and a large number of glass window elements used to bring in natural light. This not only ensures excellent daylighting but also makes the place shine like a star on the street at night.
