Japan’s Fukuoka “Dead Fish Ice Rink” Controversy Ends with Sudden 2017 Closure Announcement

The Japanese amusement park that caused an uproar on social media last month, locatedin Fukuoka’s Space World (SpaceWorld) ice rink, embedded dead fish in the ice to create an underwater effect,but has recently and quietly announced it will close next year.

Due to the overwhelming controversy, the “dead fish ice rink” was shut down last month under public pressure. Staff had buried 5,000 fish in the ice, but this “creative” idea drew widespread criticism, with rumors even suggesting some of the fish may have been buried alive. As for why it will close in 2017,according to the.japantimes website,the park management has not provided an official explanation.
