Blue Bottle Coffee enters Kyoto! Historic townhouse café to rival Starbucks

This will be the eighth Blue Bottle Coffee location in Japan and its first in the Kansai region. Located near Nanzen-ji Temple, it offers beautiful, serene mountain and forest views. Unlike the urban, alleyway-style vibe of Tokyo branches, this new spot creates an entirely fresh Blue Bottle atmosphere.
The first Tokyo Blue Bottle Coffee store, located in Kiyosumi-Shirakawa, celebrated its third anniversary on February 6, 2015.
This Kyoto branch is named ブルーボトル カフェ 京都 堀川五条 (Blue Bottle Café Kyoto Horikawa Gojo), and is set in a traditional Kyoto “machiya” townhouse. The design highlights the characteristics of mid-Edo period architecture, with a highly open space that welcomes the changing seasons. Its late March opening coincides with cherry blossom season, promising a romantic pink-flower-filled debut.
