Located by the Kamo River, “Kikusuiken” holds an important place in modern Japanese history as the former residence of Kido Takayoshi (also known as Katsura Kogoro), a statesman of the Meiji Restoration, and the loving home he shared with his geisha wife, Kikusuiken. The room where Kikusuiken once lived has been preserved intact and, together with the entrance hall adorned with antique armor, is designated as a tangible cultural property of Japan, making it highly significant historically.
