Golden Museum Waterns Chronicles: Appreciate Ouyang Yancheng’s Solo Exhibition

After nearly half a year of cold winter rains, the sunshine has begun to grace the mountain town of Jinguashi once again. Previously, the pink cherry blossoms covering the hills attracted many visitors to this mountain town; now, in late spring to early summer, the Golden Museum Park has specially invited local artist Ouyang Yancheng to present the “Waterns Chronicles – Ouyang Yancheng Solo Exhibition.” With the abundant use of blue and green hues in his artworks, the exhibition announces the season when the mountain town shines in golden light. Come appreciate the art pieces and the lush greenery of the hills.

Born in Kinmen, Ouyang Yancheng moved with his family to settle in Waterns Cave in his forties. His life experiences have led him to compare life to a seed flying with the wind. The themes of Ouyang Yancheng’s creations are always inseparably linked to Waterns Cave, Jinguashi, and the Jiufen area. The smallest details of the mountain settlements touch the nerves of his inner creativity. In his creative process, Ouyang Yancheng freely experiments with various mediums—oil paint, watercolor, ballpoint pen, crayon—all interwoven and vividly presented on paper, resulting in works that exude a fresh, simple, natural, and spontaneous style.

The Golden Museum Park’s current “Waterns Chronicles – Ouyang Yancheng Solo Exhibition” showcases the artist’s creations from the past two years. Most of them feature landscape themes where mountains and sea blend seamlessly, sky and ocean merge as one, yet each piece has its own distinctive style. These simple works, akin to diary entries, document the artist’s mountain life and inner state of mind. The “Waterns Chronicles – Ouyang Yancheng Solo Exhibition” runs from now until May 30th at the Jinshui Special Exhibition Room in the Golden Museum Park. Visitors can explore the artist’s painted chronicles of life and his mountain-dwelling years in Jiufen from a different perspective.
