Attention travelers planning to ring in the New Year in Kaohsiung: To accommodate the crowds at the 2017 New Year's Eve concert at Dream Mall in Kaohsiung, the Kaohsiung MRT will extend its operating hours on December 31. The last Red and Orange line trains of the day will depart from their terminal stations at 2 AM the following morning.

During the New Year’s Eve countdown and the New Year’s Day flag-raising events, the Kaohsiung MRT and the light rail system are expected to deploy over 700 personnel to manage passenger flow. Countdown transport measures will begin in the afternoon of December 31, with service frequency increased starting at 1 PM based on crowd levels, with the shortest intervals being 2–3 minutes. Additionally, passengers attending the New Year’s Day flag-raising ceremony,can take the earlier-than-usual first service trains, departing at 5:15 AM from Xiaogang Station, 5:10 AM from Nangangshan Station, 5:39 AM from Sizihwan Station, and 5:20 AM from Daliao Station.

On New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, the light rail system will operate from 7 AM to 10 PM, with train frequency increased depending on passenger volume, maintaining intervals as short as 10 minutes. After 10 PM, only the section between C3 Qianzhen Star Station and C5 Dream Mall Station will be in service, offering two-way shuttle services until 1:30 AM the next day. Normal holiday service hours will resume on January 1. Drivers attending the countdown events can park their vehicles at off-site parking facilities near R13 Aozihdi Station, R21 Metropolitan Park Station, and O13 Dadong Station, then transfer to the MRT directly to reach the event site at R6 Kaixuan Station. Make use of public transport to reduce traffic congestion.
