Fulong’s “Sand Hunt” Action Begins, World Champion Sand Artists Unveil 3D Masterpieces

Following the 3D visuals introduced by the movie *Avatar*, the “2010 Fulong Sand Sculpture Art Festival” features the world champion sand sculptors from the U.S.-based The Sand Sculpture Company team. Their five-member squad showcases exquisite craftsmanship to create the largest sand sculpture in Taiwan’s history. Japanese artist Toshihiko Hosaka also centers his work on the Greek mythological hero Heracles and the Nemean Lion, sculpting a canyon scene of their legendary battle, offering high visual appeal. Representing Taiwan, the “Jinglin 3D Sculpture Studio” has also gathered renowned artists such as Wang Songguan, Xu Qingfu, and Cai Yixun to join the creative lineup. They bring their vivid imaginations to life by combining world-famous architectural landmarks and anime characters—including One Piece vs. the Burj Al Arab, the wildly popular Avatar, Hello Kitty, Mushu, the bathhouse from Spirited Away, Egypt’s Abu Simbel Temple, the Leaning Tower of Pisa, the Burj Al Arab, and the Sydney Opera House—to create an alternative “Sand Sculpture Expo.”

The “2010 Fulong Sand Sculpture Art Festival” will open at 10:00 AM on May 29 at Fulong Beach. This year, a total of 15 sand sculptures will be displayed at Fulong Beach, alongside a “Sand Sculpture Creation Competition” that selects 20 teams to create works on the beach, with the number of artworks surpassing previous years. On the opening day, May 29, a series of vibrant and eye-catching performances with desert flair will take place, including the “Golden Legend” Aladdin’s magic lamp dance, bikini dance, beach hip-hop, and sailor-girl dance routines. During the event period, fun games such as “Reduce ‘Sighs’ Sandbag” and “Golden Sand Bingo,” as well as parent-child sand sculpture DIY workshops, will be offered to enhance the festive spirit.

In response to the sand sculpture festival, from May 29 to June 27, local businesses in the Northeast Coast area are also offering a range of food, drink, and entertainment discounts. For example, those entering Fulong Beach before 12:00 PM on the opening day can enjoy free admission. Visitors can combine the trip with nearby recreational spots or local delicacies to enrich their Fulong experience.
