Fall in love with Dapeng Bay – help name this super-cool sail-shaped scenic bridge

The Dapeng Bay National Scenic Area is now preparing to build the country’s first opening-style scenic bridge designed to accommodate the passage of sailboats. Upon completion in February of year 100 (2011), it will become a new landmark of Dapeng Bay and offer the best vantage point for overlooking the entire area and gazing out at the sea. In the future, it will also rival the romantic appeal of Taipei’s “Fisherman’s Wharf” as a dating hotspot. This sail-shaped scenic bridge spans the mouth of Dapeng Bay, with a total length of 579 meters, a bridge tower height of 71 meters, and the bridge deck sitting 17 meters above the water. It will allow large sailboats to pass through, facilitating the development of international-level yacht and maritime leisure activities, and further forming a “yachting golden triangle” alongside Kaohsiung’s Love River sightseeing wharf.

To give this scenic bridge a name that reflects the cultural essence of Dapeng Bay, the Dapeng Bay National Scenic Area Administration has launched an online “New Bridge Naming Campaign,” inviting netizens and the public to contribute ideas. The administration is offering an attractive prize of NT$30,000 to participants. The campaign will be conducted in two phases: the first phase involves online registration or mailing in name suggestions. Registration forms can be downloaded from the official Dapeng Bay Administration website or collected at the service desks of the Dapeng Bay Administration and the Dapeng Bay Visitor Center. The registration period runs from now until 5:00 PM on July 20.

In the second phase, a panel of judges from the Dapeng Bay Administration will select 10 finalists, after which an online public vote will be held from August 5 to August 25. Finally, the name officially chosen by the Dapeng Bay Administration as the new bridge’s name will win the NT$30,000 prize and an invitation to the bridge’s inauguration ceremony. Additionally, all participants in the online voting activity will be eligible for a random computer draw, with 30 winners receiving NT$300 convenience store vouchers each.
