Follow "Night Shining" to Explore Malaysia and Revisit the Historical Route of the Huanghuagang Uprising

Between 1906 and 1911, Dr. Sun Yat-sen visited Penang, Malaysia, five times. In fact, the Xinhai Revolution that led to the founding of the Republic of China was decided in a small house in Penang. On November 13, 1910, Sun Yat-sen and the Tongmenghui held the "Penang Conference" at 120 Pitt Street, deciding on the action for the Xinhai Uprising. It was also here that Sun Yat-sen founded the "Kwong Wah Yit Poh" newspaper. "Night Shining" portrays events that took place in Penang between July and December 1910. To allow more Taiwanese fans of the film to experience the locations firsthand, some Taiwanese travel agencies have started packaging tours that follow the film’s scenes, revisiting the historical sites of that era.

The "Night Shining" film tour includes Swettenham Pier, where Dr. Sun Yat-sen frequently took steamships operated by the Norddeutscher Lloyd shipping company, traveling multiple times between Singapore and Penang. Swettenham Pier is likely the actual location where he arrived. Weld Quay Waterfront & Saw Family Godown also boasts a uniquely historical ambiance. Located along Weld Quay, China Street Ghaut is one of Penang’s most majestic old streets, lined on both sides with grand colonial-era buildings. Ang Lee’s film "Lust, Caution" was also shot here.
