Bathe in Alishan this summer—relax and breathe the forest air
This summer, scorching heat waves have dominated, with average temperatures across Taiwan remaining high. Besides cooling off in icy pools, immersing yourself in forests embraced by trees is also a new eco-friendly travel trend. The Alishan National Forest Recreation Area, where the summer average temperature is around 20°C, is an ideal destination for escaping the heat and relaxing.

Now is the perfect time to experience the beauty of Alishan in the height of summer. Boasting wonders such as sunrises, sea of clouds, sunset glow, sacred trees, and railways, Alishan sits at an altitude of about 2,200 meters, offering cool and comfortable weather year-round. In summer, the daytime average temperature is around 20°C, dropping to about 16°C at night and approximately 14°C when watching the sunrise from the Sunrise Viewing Peak. The temperature is mild and pleasant. Aside from sunrise viewing, plants such as iris and yellow azalea are currently in full bloom within the park, creating breathtaking scenery.
To allow the public to revisit the beauty of Alishan before summer vacation, transportation that was severely damaged by typhoons was reopened at the end of June. In addition, the Alishan Forest Railway’s Sunrise Line and Zhushan Line have resumed service, which is great news for Alishan enthusiasts. Currently, the summer sunrise time is around 05:26. Visitors can take the Zhushan Line forest train to get there, with the first train departing at 04:30 and even earlier at 03:40 on holidays.

To boost tourism in Alishan once again, the Forestry Bureau has planned “Alishan’s New Eight Scenic Spots” in addition to the existing “Five Wonders of Alishan.” These include the Unique Rocks of Tashan, Mount Ogasawara, the Giant Tree at Shuǐshān, the No. 28 Giant Tree, the Remains of the Sacred Alishan Tree, Ciyun Viewing Platform, the Graceful Waterfall, and the Xianglin Arch Bridge—well worth experiencing for visitors.
