Capture the beauty of the Lin Family Garden — Grand Prize of 45,000 NTD in the Arts & Culture Submission Competition
As the seat of Taipei County’s government, Banqiao boasts not only dynamic public architecture, vibrant street murals, and a profound cultural depth, but also the Lin Family Garden, which bears witness to a century of local life and stands as a landmark of Banqiao tourism. The walls, streets, schools, and temples built within the garden carry layers of historical and cultural significance that have shaped the vibrancy of modern Banqiao.
Capture the beauty of the Lin Family Garden
Commonly known as the “Lin Family Garden,” the “Lin Benyuan Manor” is a magnificent residence constructed over 40 years by two generations of Taiwan’s wealthiest family during the late Qing Dynasty — the Lin Pinghou family. Its grand scale, exquisite materials, and intricate craftsmanship have earned it recognition as a quintessential example of Qing-era gardens in Taiwan. Though located in the heart of Banqiao, the manor presents an entirely different atmosphere from the surrounding high-rises. Its tranquil yet vibrant energy is truly captivating. On holidays, visitors can often be seen capturing the garden’s architecture with their cameras, or groups of students engaged in sketching and painting.
The “2010 Lin Garden Arts & Culture Submission Competition” has begun. This year, the competition has expanded to include a variety of artistic media such as photography, essays, and painting/sketching. Entries will be accepted from now until August 20. All art enthusiasts are welcome to use their lenses, words, or brushes to immortalize the beautiful scenery of the Lin Benyuan Manor in Banqiao. Through this competition, participants can pause, closely observe the graceful charm of the manor, and capture the most moving moments through its history, architecture, flora, and fauna.
2010 Lin Garden Arts & Culture Submission Competition
The arts and culture submission competition is divided into five categories: photography, essays, college/adult social painting, youth painting, and children’s painting. The first prize in both the photography and essay categories is 45,000 NTD, while the first prize in each painting category is 30,000 NTD. The total prize pool is as high as 500,000 NTD. All winning works will be publicly exhibited on the official competition website and at the Lin Benyuan Manor, sharing the beauty of the garden with the public. Submission entries should be mailed to: 7F, No. 141, Sec. 2, Minsheng E. Rd., Taipei City, Urban Media Group, Special Project Integrated Marketing Department, “2010 Lin Garden Arts & Culture Submission Competition” project team. Participants in the painting/sketching category may submit their works on-site at the garden. For those wishing to explore the garden more deeply, the Lin Benyuan Manor has also invited well-known bloggers such as Gong Tou Jian and Zi Zi to lead vivid, illustrated travelogues that showcase the garden’s vibrant side.
