Explore Art in Malaysia: The 2010 Contemporary Art Tourism Festival Kicks Off
As global auction activities become more and more popular, the contemporary art trend is gradually gaining traction. Malaysia, which has cultivated a unique artistic vibe through its multicultural diversity, is debuting this summer with an exciting contemporary art event — the “2010 One Malaysia Contemporary Art Tourism Festival (1 Malaysia Contemporary Art Tourism 2010).” The festival aims to promote Malaysian contemporary art tourism, allowing visitors to not only experience the charm of shopping paradise Langkawi and the ecological gem Sarawak, but also to appreciate contemporary artworks unbound by traditional artistic frameworks.

The Malaysian Contemporary Art Tourism Festival features a series of nationwide exhibitions and seminars showcasing works by local artists, facilitating exchanges among art lovers, gallery operators, artists, and a new generation of collectors from around the world. It also encourages galleries to exhibit emerging works by young artists, offering a fresh perspective on Malaysia’s contemporary art scene.
During the festival, visitors can view sculptures and art exhibition pieces by local artists at many renowned galleries, including the Prime Minister’s Official Residence Memorial Gallery (Galeria Seri Perdana), Starhill Art Gallery, National Art Gallery, PETRONAS Gallery, Malaysia Tourism Centre (MaTic), as well as the Folk Art Gallery in Malacca and Danga City Mall in Johor Bahru.

Until the end of September, various types of exhibitions will be held across the country. Works by internationally renowned Malaysian art masters further enrich the event, including the extensive private collection of Aliya and Farouk Khan, as well as creations by emerging modern sculptor Abdul Multhalib Musa, abstract art master Yusof Ghani, and acclaimed visual artist and writer A. Jegadeva, alongside Dhavinder Gill and other internationally recognized Malaysian artists. In addition to participating artists and collectors, several notable speakers from around the world will join the event, such as Mika Kuraya from Japan and Russell Storer from Australia.
Tourism Malaysia has also launched the “Art Tourism Trail,” a curated series of contemporary art galleries serving as venues for seminars and discussions on Malaysian contemporary art, providing deeper insights into the country's modern art scene.
