Miaoli’s Gongguan Township is not only famous for its jujube production, but its irrigation canal culture is also a highlight. The Chuanlong Irrigation Canal, originating from the Houlong River, weaves through the fields of the Golden Town, irrigating and nourishing the land. Agriculture, daily life, and garden landscaping here are all closely tied to this vital artery. The “Golden Tourism Season” event on August 7 and 8 lets you enjoy cooling off with water activities while experiencing the charm of the Golden Town’s irrigation canals.
The “Golden Tourism Season” event offers plenty of activities, including a farmers’ market with DIY pottery and bamboo crafts, tastings of various local agricultural specialties, souvenir sales, and bicycle rentals. The local irrigation canal culture is well-developed
Fun competitions include “Throwing {J for Peace,” “Bullseye,” “Mudfish Catching Contest,” “Golden Clam Digging,” and “Brave the Pond Crossing.” Open to the general public, participants are grouped in teams of 20, with the top three teams in each group winning specialty products from the Golden Town. After the fun competitions, you can use the NT$200 dining voucher from the Golden Tourism Season to enjoy delicious meals at local restaurants, plus a NT$100 voucher for agricultural products to buy your favorite souvenirs at the farmers’ market.
