Final Fantasy (Space Warriors) holds an important place in the hearts of many Taiwanese, but now you don’t have to go all the way to Japan to see Space Warriors. The international gaming illustration master “Yoshitaka Amano: The World of Imagination, Fantasy, and Wonder” special exhibition is on display from August 7 to September 19, featuring 60 pieces including original Space Warriors drafts, prints, and illustrations—an extremely rare and large-scale showcase even in Japan. Gamers, don’t miss this opportunity!

Yoshitaka Amano began his career in his youth, working on well-known animations such as “Science Ninja Team Gatchaman” and “Mazinger Z,” gaining 15 years of animation experience before going independent. He rose to fame after illustrating the game “Final Fantasy” (Space Warriors), quickly becoming one of Japan’s most influential global masters. The “Yoshitaka Amano: The World of Imagination, Fantasy, and Wonder” exhibition showcases three realms of Amano’s fantastical art. The “Fantasy” series features original Space Warriors drafts, prints, and illustrations Amano created in collaboration with Japanese fantasy novelist Hideyuki Kikuchi for “Vampire Hunter D.” These works have since been adapted into OVA, animated films, games, and comics.

In the “Wonder” series, you can view Amano’s magazine illustrations, as well as the original work “Filmharmonic—1001 Night,” which was created through Amano’s collaboration with nearly 100 animators and a symphony orchestra in Los Angeles, spurred by the global popularity of Space Warriors—fully showcasing Amano’s immense charm. Finally, in the “Imagination” realm, Amano’s lavishly beautiful kimonos designed for modern stage plays are displayed, along with sketches, oil paintings, watercolors, ink paintings, and other static artworks. These are combined into the “Anime Painting” (illustrated animation) screening of the animated short “Bird Song” and its hand-drawn drafts, offering a glimpse into Amano’s artistic style across animation, illustration, and gaming.
