Do you know when this year’s “Grandparents’ Day” is? The Changhua County Cultural Affairs Bureau, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, is promoting Grandparents’ Day and has launched the “Generations Together: Comics Connecting Hearts” event from August 23 to August 29. As long as grandparents and grandchildren visit a local cultural center in Changhua County together, they’ll have a chance to receive a free “Q-version caricature portrait” drawn by a street artist.

Every year, the last Sunday of August is designated as Grandparents’ Day. It was established by the Ministry of Education to raise awareness about family bonds and filial piety, and to strengthen the emotional connection between grandparents and grandchildren. This year, Grandparents’ Day falls on August 29.

The “Generations Together: Comics Connecting Hearts” event encourages grandparents and grandchildren to visit various local cultural centers in Changhua, where they can explore and learn about different cultural flavors. The participating venues include the Changhua County Cultural Affairs Bureau, the Fuxing Granary, Yuanlin Performing Arts Center, Nanguan and Beiguan Music and Opera Museum, Lukang Town History Museum, Erlin Cultural Activity Center, Yuanlin Art Museum, Puyan Township Library, Puxin Township Performing Arts Center, Xihu Cultural and Creative Industry Park, Fuxing Art Museum, Huatan Cultural Exhibition Hall, Erlin Cultural Hall, Yongjing Cultural and Creative Center, Tianzhong Cultural and Creative Center, Tianwei Cultural and Creative Center, Sijhou Cultural and Creative Center, Fangyuan Cultural and Creative Center, Dacheng Cultural and Creative Center, Mailiao Cultural and Creative Center, and Erlin Science and Technology Museum — a total of 20 venues.

If grandparents and grandchildren visit any one of the cultural centers between August 23 and August 29 and take a joint photo, they can email the photo to prshian@mail.bocach.gov.tw before September 15 to receive a specially drawn 16-page “Q-version caricature portrait” by a comic street artist. There are a total of 100 portraits available, while supplies last.
