The Charm of Hsinchu: Tradition and Heritage – The Hakka Yi-Min Cultural Festival

The Yi-Min faith is the most distinctive religious culture in Hsinchu County and one of the 12 major festivals of Taiwan’s Hakka communities. This year’s Yi-Min Festival will be held from August 21 to August 31 at the Hsinpu Fangliao Yi-Min Temple, featuring performances by Ming Hua Yuan, various traditional customs, and festival activities for the public to enjoy. Visitors can not only learn about the profound history of the Yi-Min but also step back in time and experience Hakka religious culture.

The “Hsinchu County Yi-Min Cultural Festival” opened in Hsinpu on the 21st, featuring exciting Hakka performance troupes, painted piglet competitions, water lantern releases, Hakka drama, and a Hakka music fireworks show, among other activities. At 7:30 PM, Ming Hua Yuan is invited to perform the spectacular international version of Madame White Snake at the County Stadium. The public is welcome to join in the celebration！

Meanwhile, the “Yi-Min Religious Faith Themed Exhibition” is set up at the County History Museum and will run for a full year. It includes three main themes: the history of the Yi-Min Temple, the inheritance of the faith, and the management of temple assets, illustrating the origins and development of the Yi-Min Temple. The exhibition displays the Yi-Min Festival tune sheets, the Yi-Min Temple general ledger, and other works, along with activities such as storytelling by Grandpa Yi-Min and blessing rubbings.
