A magnificent spectacle woven from flowers, 2010 Taichung International Flower Carpet Festival
Although it's just under two months away from the 2010 Taipei International Flora Exposition, the "2010 Taichung International Flower Carpet Festival" has already been held in Taichung City, giving all residents of Greater Taichung a chance to be among the first to experience the visual beauty crafted from hundreds of thousands of plants and flowers.

The inspiration for the 2010 Taichung International Flower Carpet Festival comes from the Brussels Flower Carpet Festival, which in the past required a trip to Europe to witness. This year, however, visitors can enjoy lush green lawns and vibrant, colorful flower carpets right at Taichung City’s Civic Square and Chingkuo Boulevard.
This event is planned by the Taichung City Government. As the name suggests, a flower carpet is designed to resemble a carpet made of flowers. This massive flower carpet, spanning 100 meters in length and 60 meters in width, is composed of hundreds of thousands of flowering and foliage plants. The visual designer of this year’s flower carpet is Wu Yongjian, the same designer behind the mascot “Haibao” for the Shanghai World Expo.

In terms of thematic content, the organizers have divided the entire flower carpet into "Five Fantastic Scenes," including the "Light-Sculpted Flower Carpet," "Musical Water Dance Show," "Aerial Flower Viewing," "Magic Kaleidoscope," and "Happiness Castle Observation Deck." The event also invited internationally acclaimed art director Tim Yip to serve as a consultant, ensuring that no matter the viewing angle—day or night—visitors can witness Taiwan’s largest and most spectacular flower carpet.
In addition to the flower carpet, weekend afternoons will feature the "Gourmet Delights" and "Dream Wedding Proposal" events, offering a series of surprising floral-themed experiences. The festival runs from August 21st to August 29th, for a total of nine consecutive days. Why not bring your family along for a visit this weekend?
