Explore Green Island by Bike – Low-Carbon Travel Is Trending!
Green Island is one of the most beloved spots for water activities among the public. During this summer vacation, the number of daily visitors even approached 5,000, hitting an all-time high. However, crowded places often come with environmental challenges. In response, the Tourism Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications promoted the “Bike Visit to Green Island – Low-Carbon Travel” campaign in September and October. The aim is to encourage the use of bicycles as a means of transportation to contribute to environmental protection. Participants also have the chance to receive a “carbon reduction bonus”!
The circumference of Green Island is about 20 kilometers, featuring flat roads as well as challenging routes that cyclists love. This year, Green Island is actively promoting cycling around the island, with the goal of making it one of Taiwan’s top low-carbon tourism destinations. Riders who complete stamps at four checkpoints on their issued challenge card will receive a beautifully designed certificate, and also have the chance to win a mobile tour guide worth NT$5,000 and imported brand bicycle gloves.

The East Coast National Scenic Area Administration charges a registration fee of NT$500 for the bike-around-the-island certification program, while the two-day-one-night package tour is NT$3,500 per person. Trips are scheduled for September 16, 25 and October 2, 16. Highlights include mandatory coral reef snorkeling, special offshore feeding of flying fish, salted fish-making experiences, and hikes along the Guanshan Ancient Trail. Those who bring their own bikes to the island will also receive a bike bag worth NT$580. Emphasizing low-carbon practices, the itinerary requires participants to avoid single-use plastic bottles, toiletries, and utensils. Each session will have participants vote based on style, equipment, and philosophy, selecting five “low-carbon travel ambassadors.” The top five winners, chosen by online voters, will receive bonuses ranging from NT$1,000 to NT$5,000.

From 7 to 9 PM during these four sessions, a Starry Sky Concert will be held at Green Island Junior High School, featuring performances by award-winning artists such as Gold Melody Award winner Hao En, Brazil Wa Li Band, She Lou Fu Jazz Band, and Nan Wang Three Sisters. Cycling enthusiasts can head to Green Island this early fall to enjoy a healthy lifestyle and try out a unique, quality low-carbon travel experience.
