Even as summer draws to a close, it’s still time to drink beer heartily. Following the popularity of last year’s beer festival, this year’s ‘2010 Tiaotong Beer Lovers' Festival’ is hosted by the Taipei City Government Department of Economic Development (Commercial Affairs Division). The event will kick off on September 11 and will be held over three days: September 11, September 12, and September 18.

This year’s event brings together six major breweries including Asahi, Sapporo, wheat beer, Delaber, and others offering locally brewed beers, along with 24 well-regarded Tiaotong shops, all aiming to let consumers “come to Tiaotong, drink beer, enjoy great food, and have a seamless experience!” The event will feature six major promotions, including the daily sale of the “Tiaotong Beer Lovers' Free Pass,” a big “6 NT$ Free Pass” flash sale, a ‘100 NT$ Tiaotong Lucky Bag,’ the ‘Tiaotong Lottery,’ “Explore Tiaotong, Travel Japan,” and “Tiaotong Eat, Drink, Play & Do Good.” It’s set to be the biggest event in the Tiaotong commercial district yet.

Liu Chia-chun, Director of the Taipei City Commercial Affairs Division, said that the Tiaotong commercial district has a uniquely vibrant atmosphere, with many popular shops hidden in its neat alleys that attract long queues—like the famous Fugenzan unagi rice and refined Aoyatei Taiwanese cuisine that visitors must try. Last year, the division set up three entrance installations on the side of Tiaotong near Zhongshan North Road (nos. 5, 6, and 8) to enhance the area’s ambiance. This year, green landscaping will be added to further enrich the street vibe, alongside the selection of quality shops and the development of model stores, giving the district a refreshed and distinct look.

Additionally, those who enjoy Japanese festivals, Japanese-style experiences, or have a deep knowledge of beer can head to Liuliu Street (Lane 107, Roosevelt Road Section 1) on September 11, 12, and 18 to soak in the lively atmosphere. The “Tiaotong Beer Lovers' Free Pass” can be purchased not only at the event site but also at three designated Tiaotong shops during the campaign period (9/11–10/31). The Commercial Affairs Division noted that to avoid excessive crowds, pre-sales will begin at select shops on September 9. The first 60 customers in line at each store can buy the normally 50 NT$ pass for just 6 NT$. On-site, over 100 6 NT$ passes will also be available for a limited time. Additionally, those who buy the pass at full price (50 NT$) and spend at partner shops can use a 100 NT$ meal voucher at Qilong Restaurant. Xiaoheniuhuo Spicy Hotpot offers an all-you-can-eat deal for one person when six dine together for just 6 NT$ (regular price 483 NT$), while Zhudong Japanese Pub offers an all-you-can-drink Asahi beer series for just 299 NT$. Smart Shoes offers a flat 50% discount, plus shop discounts worth at least 5,000 NT$, along with Japanese festival experience vouchers, beer tasting coupons, and “Tiaotong Lottery” draw tickets.

Liu Chia-chun, Director of the Taipei City Commercial Affairs Division, emphasized that to promote the featured eateries of the flagship Tiaotong commercial district, holders of the Free Pass can join the “Tiaotong Lottery” for a chance to win over 60 prizes including 6 gold coins, or those who enter draw tickets at partner shops during the event period can also vie for grand prizes such as a round-trip ticket to Tokyo or a year’s supply of beer, totaling over 40,000 NT$ in value. In addition, shoppers spending over 500 NT$ can also enter the “2010 Taipei Shopping Festival” lottery, where the top prize is a BMW worth millions.
