The Sun Moon Lake Fireworks and Music Festival kicks off in October with a dazzling start
The annual Sun Moon Lake Fireworks and Music Festival, now in its third year, will run for one and a half months starting from October 8. With 11 varied music performances alongside 7 spectacular fireworks displays over the lake, the event is packed with highlights you won’t want to miss.
This year’s Sun Moon Lake Carnival features 11 musical feasts curated by the Sun Moon Lake National Scenic Area Administration. From powerful performances by a 100-piece symphony orchestra and drum ensembles, to romantic jazz, internationally acclaimed vocalists, dance dramas combining symphonic music and modern ballet, and energetic traditional dances of the nine indigenous tribes—there’s something every week starting in October. This year’s event brings together the National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra, Taiwan Mobile, and Nantou County Government for a joint fireworks and music carnival, featuring top-tier music groups and performers from both home and abroad.
The first event on October 8 opens with the “Romantic Jazz Night” by the National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra and Makoto Ozone. On October 9, renowned conductor Chiang Ching-Po and the Rhythm Time Orchestra present a program featuring famous arias from operas such as Turandot. The “Charming Saxophone” on October 16 and “Night of the Ten Drum Art Percussion Group” on October 30 are performed respectively by the NTSO Wind Ensemble and the Ten Drum Art Percussion Group. On November 6, the “Indigenous Night” is brought to life by the performance team of Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village, followed by the “Snake Young Man – Indigenous Modern Ballet” on November 13 and 14, a collaboration between the NTSC and the National Taiwan University of Sport.
In addition to the music events, the Sun Moon Lake National Scenic Area Administration has launched the “Your Trips: Sun Moon Lake Travel Diary” essay competition. Submissions are open from now until January 10, 2011, encouraging everyone to share their joyful experiences exploring the Sun Moon Lake National Scenic Area.
