Lin Shih-rong, a local tea expert and victim of Typhoon Morakot, said that the best way to help disaster victims rebuild their homes and move past the hardships is to purchase agricultural products from the affected areas. Although the Alishan Highway has reopened, officially signaling the revitalization of the local tourism industry, the demand for the area’s fine tea and coffee is not what it used to be. The drop in tourist purchases is something the locals feel most acutely. That’s why many locals, including Lin Shih-rong, have created websites using the internet’s capabilities. Lin himself has built the “Impressions of Alishan” website to provide information about quality tea and coffee. Especially since Alishan is a great summer retreat, enjoying fine tea and scenic views with friends is truly a delightful experience.
Now that the Mid-Autumn Festival is here, it’s the perfect time to sip tea, enjoy coffee, and admire the moon. Lin Shih-rong noted that it’s well known that drinking high-quality tea is beneficial to health. Among international tea markets, Alishan High Mountain Tea has always received high praise, as have other fine teas such as Da Hong Pao and Tieguanyin from across the strait. The Chiayi County Tea Manufacturers Association has also set up a website, which is warmly welcomed as a reference for consumers. In particular, tea and fruit farmers in the disaster-affected areas are actively engaging with the internet, hoping to share their local agricultural specialties with more people. Moreover, there is a wide variety of tea types, each with unique characteristics in terms of quality, aroma, taste, liquor color, and leaf shape.
Lin Shih-rong emphasized that after Typhoon Morakot, disaster victims need even more support as they rebuild their homes. Furthermore, the “Impressions of Alishan” website he created aims to help the public—or visitors to Alishan—gain a deeper understanding when purchasing souvenirs, leaving them with a more beautiful impression of Alishan.
