Performances that transcend language: The Rhythm of Korea, 2010
Silence speaks louder than words. The "2010 Korea In Motion," Korea’s most representative non-verbal performance festival, is now in its fifth edition, inviting travelers from around the world to Korea to enjoy globally renowned non-verbal works. This year’s event runs from October 16 to 31, with free admission to invited performances for foreign visitors.
"2010 Korea In Motion" is held at permanent performance venues in central Seoul, the Open Courtyard of the National Museum of Korea, and Marronnier Park on Daehak-ro. Featured performances include: *Legend of Flower*, a dance, percussion, B-boy, and martial arts production with a budget of 6 billion KRW that conveys Korean emotion; *Cat Drum Show*, the only all-female percussion group that received praise at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival; *Drawing Show*, a graffiti painting performance that has been staged over 800 times; *Baby (Battle B-Boy)*, combining B-boy performances with graceful dance; *Miso美笑*, a traditional Korean musical depicting the love story of Chunhyang and Lee Mong-ryong; *The Pan*, a highly popular traditional Korean variety show featuring celebrity performances; *Sachoom*, a non-verbal dance show; and *Fanta-Stick*, a performance based on traditional Korean music with string instruments and powerful male percussion.

Among the invited performances, *Fun Percussion* is based on the concept of “fun percussion,” telling the story of factory workers striving to fix broken rhythm gears in a rhythm factory, while *The Chaser* showcases all forms of non-verbal performance in a quest for the secret book that cures the “disease of lost smiles.”
This year also marks the debut of KOINMO (Korea In Motion) Day. By spending just US$10 during each weekend (Friday to Sunday) of the festival, visitors can enjoy a full day of performances. Fans of performing arts can experience a wide variety of acts in one go. Pre-sales are now available via the Korea Tourism Organization’s website (www.visitkorea.or.kr).
