Okinawa Prefecture will begin promoting the ‘Okinawa2Go!’ project in early October to enable overseas travelers to enjoy a worry-free and pleasant trip to Okinawa.
The project includes a 24-hour tourism information hotline and a service that utilizes smartphones to provide the latest information (an experimental project commissioned by Okinawa Prefecture). This combination of a 24-hour information hotline and a smartphone-based service to deliver information to foreign tourists is the first of its kind in Japan.
The tourism information hotline offers interpretation services in Chinese, English, and Korean, aiming to assist international visitors traveling in Okinawa. Additionally, an Okinawan tourism information app called ‘Okinawa2Go!’ has been developed that takes advantage of iPhone features. With this service, visitors to Okinawa can access tourist information and transportation details anytime during their stay, and also instantly share the joy and excitement of their travels with others online. A 24-hour tourism information hotline has also been established.
In addition, it is planned that from early November, international visitors will be able to rent iPhones equipped with the ‘Okinawa2Go’ tourism information app, with rental locations tentatively set at Naha Airport. Rentals will be available only during one’s stay in Okinawa, with unlimited internet access, while calling functions are limited to use with the tourism information hotline. International visitors will also be able to use their own iPhones with the ‘Okinawa2Go’ functionality starting in December.
