Win NT$50,000 by capturing the charm of North Coast landscapes in paintings
The first "North Coast Artistic Scenery" oil painting plein air competition—just paint your favorite view of the North Coast for a chance to win NT$50,000 in prize money. On October 16, 2010 (Saturday) at 8:00 AM, the North Coast National Scenic Area Administration hosted the first oil painting plein air competition at Bai Sha Wan Lin Shan Bi Recreation Area in Shimen Township, Taipei County.
The North Coast boasts azure seas and lush mountains, with its spectacular rock formations offering breathtaking views. The competition venue is conveniently located at the Lin Shan Bi Recreation Area, which features rich ecological geology. The coastline is dotted with honeycomb-like basalt rocks and white cliffs, creating a dramatic contrast with the vast ocean—a true gem of Taiwan’s coastal scenery. The area is also enriched by the sea breeze and the artistic touch of nature, forming a uniquely beautiful seascape.
Additionally, the outdoor scene in the romantic film "Secret," where the male lead Jay Chou escorts the female lead Gwei Lun-mei home, was filmed along the wooden boardwalk of the Lin Shan Bi bicycle trail. Many tourists visit this spot, making it another popular destination for leisurely outings.

This event invites professional and amateur oil painters aged 18 and above to participate and capture the beauty of the North Coast through their art. The first prize is NT$50,000, second prize NT$30,000, third prize NT$10,000, two merit awards of NT$5,000 each, and ten selected entries of NT$3,000 each. All winners will also receive a certificate of recognition.
