Taichung Chingchuankang Upgraded to "International Airport" – Central and Southern Passengers Can Travel to Hong Kong, Macau, and Southeast Asia More Time-Efficiently

Taichung has entered a brand-new era in 2017, as Chingchuankang Airport will be upgraded to the "Taichung International Airport." In addition to a comprehensive upgrade of hardware facilities including the apron, taxiways, and surrounding traffic route planning, international routes will also be successively added. The existing mainland China flight destinations will remain unchanged, while international routes to Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam), Bangkok (Thailand), Macau, and Singapore will be added.

Minister Heito of the Ministry of Transportation pointed out that in order to attract international airlines to fly to central and southern Taiwan’s international airports such as Taichung and Kaohsiung,in addition to having already reduced the landing fees at Taichung and Kaohsiung airports in 2013 (102 in the Republic of China calendar), starting January 1 of this year, the fees will be further reduced by 20% based on the current rates, in a full push to expand tourism in central and southern Taiwan.As for flights, Taichung International Airport will actively develop international low-cost carriers. Although the number of mainland Chinese tourists has decreased in recent years, visitors from Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, and Macau have been gradually increasing. Once flights to Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam), Bangkok (Thailand), and Macau are launched, travelers from central and southern Taiwan will find it much more time-saving and convenient to visit Southeast Asia in the future.
