Plum Blossom Theater Reopens with Tickets at NT$123

Plum Blossom Theater was completed in late 1979 and opened before the Lunar New Year the following year. It featured two screening halls, Orchid and Chrysanthemum, and has a history of nearly 30 years. The 1970s coincided with the Taiwanese New Wave cinema movement, and Plum Blossom Theater screened many new films such as "The Dull Ice Flower," "The Sandwich Man," and "A Brighter Summer Day," enjoying a heyday. However, it later faced competition from larger theaters and shifted to screening independent and art-house films. Due to long-term losses, it ceased operations on September 7, 2007. Nevertheless, it’s undeniable that Plum Blossom Theater bore witness to over 30 years of Taiwanese film history and became a beloved venue for fans of art-house cinema. Its closure is truly lamentable.

However, after being closed for nearly three years, Plum Blossom Theater has been revitalized thanks to the vision of CMPC Chairman Kuo Tai-chiang, who loves cinema and promotes cultural and creative arts. With an investment of NT$30 million, it has been rebuilt as the Plum Blossom Digital Cinema and reopened on December 3. In conjunction with a charity event organized by Rotary Club 3480 to support dementia awareness, all proceeds from the opening day were donated to the Dementia Society.
