To promote the unique beauty of Sichuan in winter, the Sichuan Provincial Tourism Bureau plans to hold a series of grand promotional events in Taiwan, welcoming Taiwanese tourists to soak in hot springs and celebrate the New Year in Sichuan. According to statistics from the Sichuan Provincial Tourism Bureau, from January to October 2010, approximately 120,000 Taiwanese visited Sichuan; they hope that over 200,000 Taiwanese will visit Sichuan in 2011.

The Sichuan Tourism Bureau specially held a press conference in Taipei on December 14 to promote winter tourism in Sichuan.

The Deputy Director of the Sichuan Provincial Tourism Bureau stated that Sichuan has abundant tourism resources, and winter in Sichuan is an ideal destination for hot spring bathing and skiing. To help Taiwanese get to know winter Sichuan, the Sichuan Provincial Tourism Bureau has specially launched a travel itinerary themed “Sichuan in Winter Is Just Right for Fun.” In addition to arranging health-promoting hot spring baths and breathtaking snow viewing and skiing activities, the lively and warm ethnic festival experiences will allow travelers to celebrate the New Year in a festive atmosphere.

While the snowy winter landscape of Sichuan is well known, the high-quality hot springs of Sichuan await visitors’ appreciation like hidden treasures. The Mount Emei Tianyi Hot Springs, nestled against mountains and beside water with lush greenery, offers views of the peaks of Mount Emei and picturesque rural scenery. The Tianfu Hot Springs originate from the Zhougongshan Hot Springs, known as the “No.1 Hot Spring of Shu,” rich in minerals and offering therapeutic benefits. Besides hot springs, Sichuan’s ski resorts and facilities are also quite comprehensive. For example, snowmobiles at Yanzigou and the half-pipe slopes at Xiling Snow Mountain Ski Resort are exciting attractions worth trying. Additionally, the itinerary carefully includes rare ethnic minority New Year festival activities, such as the Yi people’s “Tiger Jumping Festival,” the Qiang people’s “Vow Repayment and God Worship,” and the unique drinking culture of the Tibetan people—experiences that are definitely worth trying and remembering.

To increase interaction between Taiwanese people and Sichuan, the Sichuan Tourism Network held the “Create a Sichuan Password” event, inviting Taiwanese netizens to submit a “one-sentence” description of Sichuan. Anyone who writes a description or impression of Sichuan within 30 characters between 2010/12/7 and 2011/1/6 has a chance to win a major prize. Simply becoming a member of the Sichuan Tourism Network qualifies you to participate. The winning phrases and names will be announced on the website and featured as the annual quotes for the following year. The event details will be published on ten major news websites such as HiNet, PChome, Sina, and MSN. The results will be judged by the Taiwanese editorial team of the Sichuan Tourism Network and announced on 2011/1/15. The champion will win a two-person trip for the “Jiuzhaigou, Mount Emei, and Leshan Eight-Day Tour,” while two runners-up will each receive a round-trip flight ticket between Taipei and Chengdu. During the event, participants can use the Sichuan Tourism fan page account on Facebook to doodle continuously, invite friends to join the event, share posts, vote, and increase interaction with other netizens.
