One of the Best Sunset Spots: Nyūdōzaki Cape::Akita

Selected as one of Japan’s top 100 sunset viewing spots, Nyūdōzaki Cape is situated at the northernmost tip of the Oga Peninsula in northwestern Akita Prefecture. From this location, visitors can enjoy an unobstructed view of the Sea of Japan stretching out on three sides—a grand and magnificent scene. At sunset, as the sky shifts through layers of color, the gradually setting sun sinks below the horizon, creating a truly awe-inspiring display of nature’s artistry.
The Oga Peninsula juts out like an axe into the Sea of Japan, and its coastline is dotted with unusual rock formations, offering spectacular coastal scenery. Nyūdōzaki lies on the 40th parallel north, marked by a monument made from the peninsula’s local andesite stone. In addition, a black-and-white lighthouse—selected as one of Japan’s Top 50 Lighthouses—stands proudly here, adding to the breathtaking beauty of the expansive seascape.
Nyūdōzaki’s iconic black-and-white lighthouse houses a visitor information exhibition room, and the view of the Sea of Japan from atop the lighthouse is even more spectacular.
