Super Cute New Year Dishes: Officially Licensed Kitty and Brown Sugar Buddha Jumps Over the Wall Now on Sale

The pre-Lunar New Year takeout battle for festive dishes has officially begun, with Buddha Jumps Over the Wall being a highly sought-after item among many vendors. Dihua Street’s 80-year-old shop Lao Xie Zhen, in addition to collaborating with Sanrio to release the classic “Hello Kitty 40th Anniversary Buddha Jumps Over the Wall,” has also teamed up with Korea’s LINE FRIENDS, making this traditional dish not only delicious but also collectible.

This year’s collaboration with Japan’s Sanrio features the “Hello Kitty Golden Rooster Embracing Joy Buddha Jumps Over the Wall.” The exterior of the jar is decorated with a golden rooster and Hello Kitty, while the lid handle is designed as a symbol of wealth—“Golden Hen”—limited to 2,000 jars. Ingredients include South African abalone, black jade sea cucumber, Japanese Hokkaido scallops, Dajia taro, and water chestnuts, all simmered in a traditional Taiwanese broth made from flatfish and shallots. Priced at NT$3,480.

Lao Xie Zhen has collaborated with Korea’s LINE FRIENDS for the first time this year to create the world-exclusive, Taiwan-limited edition of 1,500 jars of “2017 LINE FRIENDS Bear Jumps Over the Wall.” With the image concept of “Bear Loves Taiwan,” the jar lid features a cheering Brown Bear, with adorable Brown Bear and Cony strolling past well-known Taipei landmarks such as Taipei 101, Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, and Grand Hotel.
