The beautiful island of Con Dao (also known as Con Son) in Vietnam is an unpolluted nature reserve, located about a hundred miles off the southeast coast of mainland Vietnam. For decades, it has been a national park and coastal reserve, not only far from the hustle and bustle but also boasting an exceptional ecological environment. In late December 2010, the island’s only five-star resort officially opened, committing itself to active environmental protection.

Con Dao is not far from Vietnam, with daily flights departing from Ho Chi Minh City, taking about an hour to arrive. Around 80% of the island’s land has been designated as part of the national park. The luxury resort group Six Senses recently opened its Vietnamese property, Six Senses Con Dao, which features 50 villas standing along a mile-long stretch of beach, backed by lush green hills, offering sweeping views of the sparkling sea and scenic bays.
To minimize pollution, the resort uses natural building materials sourced sustainably from the local area, including teakwood reclaimed from traditional Vietnamese interiors and thousands of exquisitely carved antique wooden planks. In addition, the resort's architectural style is modern yet complements the surrounding natural landscape. As a result, it won the “Best Small Hotel Architecture & Design” award at the 2010 Asia Pacific Property Awards before its official opening and was also shortlisted for the World Property Awards.

The island’s flat, expansive beaches and magnificent sea provide the perfect setting for a variety of water activities. Visitors can take Vietnam’s round bamboo basket boats to coral reef areas for snorkeling and diving; they can also go sailing, kayaking, or take boat trips to nearby islands such as Turtle Island and Bird Island, making for a truly idyllic island holiday.
