Plum Blossoms "Everlasting Harmony" at Yangmingshan, 2011 Taipei Camellia Exhibition

Native to China, the camellia is one of the top ten famous flowers. Blooming bravely through the cold early spring until the fragrant days of peach and plum blossoms, the camellia has accompanied humans for over 2,500 years, forming a rich camellia culture that is both highly ornamental and worth promoting.

The Flower Trial Center in Shanzihou, Yangmingshan, can be considered the first area in northern Taiwan to introduce and cultivate camellias. Thanks to its slightly acidic soil and year-round misty climate, camellias have been planted here since the Japanese colonial period. Today, they have grown into a serene woodland, creating a stunning pink sea of flowers when in bloom. The colorful fallen petals contrasting against the lush green moss make for a striking scene, attracting both tourists and newlyweds for wedding photos.
