Located in Okinawa, Nago enjoys a warmer climate, so its cherry blossom season arrives earlier than in other parts of Japan. This year’s Nago cherry blossom season is expected to start in late January, between January 29 and 30, at sites including Nago Central Park, SAKURA Park, and Nago Crossing Boulevard (Nago City).

The Nago Citizens' General Park Area is a renowned spot for cherry blossom viewing.

As a popular cherry blossom destination, the Nago Citizens' General Park Area features a sports field, grassy areas, greenery, and a beach, offering a relaxing parkland atmosphere. It can be reached by taking bus routes “20, 21, 65, 66, 67, 77” from Nago Bus Terminal and getting off at “Nago City Hall,” about a 10-minute ride away.

The cherry blossom season at Nago Castle is around late January, when Ryukyu kanhi-zakura (Taiwan cherry) blooms. It marks the start of Japan’s earliest cherry blossom festivities. Since 1912, when 48 cherry trees were transplanted from the mountains to the approach path, approximately 20,000 Taiwan cherry trees have been planted there to date.

Okinawa boasts many unique handicrafts.

Nago City is the only city in the northern part of Okinawa Island in the Ryukyu Archipelago, featuring coasts on both the eastern and western sides, with its city center close to Nago Bay. To the east of the city lies the former site of Nago Castle, a scenic spot famous for its winter-blooming cherry blossoms.
