Air Busan’s Inaugural Flight from Busan to Taipei on January 27

South Korea’s Air Busan FLY SMART announced on January 5 that it will launch its inaugural flight between Taipei and Busan on January 27, operating one daily round-trip flight. The airline has also introduced a long-term seven-day online promotional fare with limited seat availability. For an additional NT$1,000, passengers can fly to Seoul or other domestic cities in South Korea. Travelers planning a trip to Korea should keep an eye on this information.

When operational, Air Busan’s direct flights between Busan and Taipei will have a total of 195 seats. Passengers can book through travel agencies or online to meet the needs of independent travelers. In addition, there are 30 daily flights to Seoul and 22 to Jeju Island, ensuring frequent domestic connections. FLY SMART Air Busan was awarded the 2009 Customer Satisfaction Management Award, achieving a punctuality rate of 94.3% and an on-time departure rate of 100%.

As for travel from Busan to Seoul, although the high-speed rail connecting the two cities has been launched, Air Busan’s fares are comparable to the train. However, while the high-speed rail takes 2.5 hours, the flight only takes 50 minutes. Therefore, Air Busan remains confident about its domestic flight market. In 2010, Air Busan saw a 10% growth in performance compared to 2009. Additionally, flights from Busan to Seoul depart on the hour, while flights from Seoul to Busan leave at :30 past the hour—offering frequent and easy-to-remember schedules.

Currently, Air Busan also operates two daily direct flights from Busan to Fukuoka and Osaka.

Air Busan has also partnered with businesses to offer discount programs, currently collaborating with over 9,000 partner companies, all managed online.

Busan, located in the southeastern part of South Korea, was originally part of South Gyeongsang Province. It is the largest city in southern South Korea as well as a major port in the region, known for its bustling trade, and currently has a population of four million. Air Busan was established in 2007. In addition to domestic routes, its current destinations include Fukuoka and Osaka in Japan, Cebu in the Philippines, Taipei (inaugurated in January), and Hong Kong (scheduled for the second half of 2011).
