Though the weather is getting colder, the festive spirit of the Lunar New Year is quietly intensifying. As families prepare to buy New Year goods ahead of the Lunar New Year, wishing for renewal and prosperity in the coming year, this year—coinciding with the centennial of the Republic of China—Taipei City Government has adopted the theme “Prosperity with the Lucky Rabbit” for its celebration. The event connects six major business districts: Dadaocheng, the Back Station area, Taipei Underground Mall, Huayin Street, Ningxia, and Binjiang, allowing shoppers to enjoy not only great deals but also gifts upon reaching spending thresholds, making shopping both fun and rewarding.

Taipei’s Lunar New Year Shopping Street has been held annually since 1996. This year’s celebration runs from January 15 to February 1. The district is specially decked out with festive lights and decorations, extending and expanding the embellishment across the streets, along with the setup of a prayer lantern corridor, continuously creating a lively New Year shopping atmosphere. In line with the Year of the Rabbit, the event is themed “Prosperity with the Lucky Rabbit,” crafting the most festive Lunar New Year shopping street in Taiwan, showcasing traditional New Year customs and refined commercial culture.

During the Lunar New Year Shopping Street period (January 15 to February 1), consumers can participate in a lucky draw by presenting receipts or invoices at service counters if they make single purchases of NT$200 or more at designated areas including the Dihua Street business district, Taipei Underground Mall, Huayin Street business district, Binjiang business district, Ningxia Night Market, Back Station business district, and especially recommended Taipei Good Stores. Prizes include 2011 Lunar New Year gift bags, Lunar New Year Shopping Street “fortune money,” Ko Lao Er pineapple cakes, and other gifts offered by individual stores.
