Taiwan, renowned worldwide for its agricultural technology, has achieved many remarkable milestones over the past century. For example, Taiwanese Phalaenopsis orchids are marketed globally, generating a yield value of up to 5.5 million New Taiwan dollars per hectare, earning Taiwan the reputation of the "Kingdom of Phalaenopsis"; the flower and Eastern Taiwan rice that boosted the reputation of "Taiwanese rice" in the Japanese market, as well as the breeding techniques for Black Pearl and Black Diamond wax apples, are all hard-earned achievements of Taiwanese farmers. The Council of Agriculture has created the "Taiwan Agriculture: A Century of Passion" website to allow the public to witness the century-long agricultural transformation of Taiwan.

In 1952, during the expanded celebration of Farmers' Day, a towel gifted to farmers by the government was considered a luxurious gift at the time. Back then, farmhouses were not only unable to keep out the rain, but access to water for bathing and daily use required going to rivers or ditches, and farmers even had to share their living spaces with their livestock. It wasn’t until the 1950s and 1960s, with the government's "Nine Accelerated Rural Construction Measures," that rural life began to improve. Coupled with economic takeoff and rising national income, the living conditions of farming families were further enhanced, leading to the beautiful rural landscapes seen in Taiwan today.

The "Agricultural Portraits" section of the "Taiwan Agriculture: A Century of Passion" website uses historical images and texts to allow the public to experience the hardships and transformations of farm life, as well as witness the achievements accumulated by Taiwanese agriculture over the past century. The site's "Solar Terms and Life" introduces the climate characteristics of each month’s solar term, its significance to agriculture, and its impact on daily life. In February, in conjunction with the upcoming 2011 International Orchid Exhibition, the theme "The Dazzling and Passionate Orchids of Taiwan" is launched. The public can appreciate Taiwan’s orchid industry, which has stepped onto the international stage.
