As the name suggests, the GoldenPass Line is a golden route that brings together the best of Switzerland’s scenic highlights. Starting at Lake Lucerne in the German-speaking heart of Switzerland, it connects cities such as Lucerne, Interlaken, Zweisimmen, and Montreux, extending all the way to the French-speaking region in southwestern Switzerland and reaching the shores of Lake Geneva, known as the “Swiss Riviera.” This journey showcases the finest of Switzerland’s mountain and lake scenery, leaving travelers in constant awe.

The GoldenPass Line weaves through the heart of the Alps, passing by six lakes and three high mountain passes, covering a total distance of over 240 kilometers with a journey time of about five hours. It is made up of three connected scenic trains: the Brunig scenic train, which mainly runs between Lucerne and Interlaken; the BLS blue train, which runs between Interlaken and Zweisimmen; and the MOB crystal scenic train, which runs between Zweisimmen and Montreux.

It connects Central Switzerland and Ticino, two renowned tourist areas, offering a one-day trip that takes you from glacial landscapes to Mediterranean climates. Unlike other scenic trains, the William Tell Express combines not only rail travel on land but also a boat ride on the water, allowing you to enjoy not just the beautiful Alpine scenery but also the tranquility of lake views.

This steam-powered boat travels slowly, making stops in the towns along Lake Lucerne. It gently makes its way toward Flüelen, taking about 3.5 hours for the lake journey—so once you’re on board, just relax and take it as a great opportunity to unwind during a busy trip. After disembarking, you can transfer directly to a scenic train heading to Lugano.
