This summer, Taitung County will host the nation’s first-ever hot air balloon carnival, inviting at least six international teams to bring 10 hot air balloons from abroad to join the festivities. On July 1st to 3rd, 20 hot air balloons will take to the skies above Luye Gaotai, creating a spectacular scene. This year’s “Season of Flying” event will feature hot air balloons for the first time, along with a series of exciting aerial performances and family-friendly activities, expected to attract 100,000 visitors and generate over NT$100 million in tourism revenue.

The 2011 Season of Flying event will kick off with a hot air balloon carnival, inviting six international hot air balloon teams to participate. Several countries have already expressed interest, and the county government will conduct a selection process. The event will include a Hot Air Balloon City Summit, a Hot Air Balloon Carnival, a city tour, free-flight hot air balloon performances and displays, as well as hot air balloon talent training programs. A special hot air balloon exclusive to Taitung will also be featured—designed creatively by 252 elementary school students from four schools in the longitudinal valley region, it will be actualized into a balloon with a 17-meter diameter and 21-meter height.

Additionally, Taitung County has lined up a series of exciting activities, including aerial performances with paragliding, stunt kites, ultralight aircraft, a high-altitude wedding celebration, the “Celebrating 100 Years of the Republic – Thousand People Lie Down 100” event, and related family experiences. These activities are interconnected to form travel packages, in collaboration with local townships, farmers' and fishermen's associations across Taitung County, as well as travel agencies developing the “Summer in Taitung – Season of Flying” series, aiming to draw visitors to Taitung during the summer break and fill the skies with vibrant energy.
