The one-month-long Alishan Cherry Blossom Festival has come to an end. This year, approximately 260,000 visitors traveled up the mountain to enjoy the blossoms, nearly three times the number from last year. With cold winters and warm springs this year, the cherry blossoms in Alishan bloomed particularly vibrantly. On public holidays, over 10,000 visitors flocked to the area each time, with as many as 20,000 visitors pouring in on April 3rd alone — the highest single-day visitor count since Typhoon Morakot in 2009.

To alleviate traffic congestion on the Alishan Highway and serve visitors, the Chiayi Forest District Office of the Forestry Bureau offered free shuttle services for medium-sized buses between kilometers 86 and 95 of the Alishan Highway, taking visitors directly to the entrance of the recreation area. This not only allowed for discounted admission tickets but also saved time entering the park. This year, nearly 70,000 people used the service, effectively reducing traffic. Additionally, large temporary parking zones and turnaround areas for buses were set up this year, keeping the main parking lots clear. These measures significantly alleviated congestion caused by large vehicles within the park. Moreover, the Alishan Forest Railway’s Zhiping and Shenshu branch lines increased train frequency and added extra carriages. Two optimal cherry blossom viewing routes were also planned within the park to encourage visitors to enjoy the blossoms on foot, greatly improving the previously crowded train travel experience.

Brilliant Late-Spring Blooms Follow Alishan’s Cherry Blossom Season
After the Alishan Cherry Blossom Festival ended, late-spring flowers have begun to bloom in succession, including calla lilies, broom flowers, weeping crabapples, winter jasmine, wisteria, and golden azaleas. There are also ground-cover plants such as daisies, dandelions, and foxgloves, making the Alishan National Forest Recreation Area a vibrant and uniquely charming sight.
